It was very difficult for me to climb the first hill with my full stomach. I have never sat to take rest when I climbed the first hill back in 2019 but, this time around, I last count on how many times I had sat down to take a bit of rest. I even felt a sudden urge to quit this and go down. But my friends waited with me till I reached the first hill. And believe me, after reaching the first hill, my stomach didn’t upset me anymore. Instead, all the proteins I ate just gave me my stamina.
This time |
It took me one hour to complete the first hill (may be more; I forgot) but, its certainly much slower than my last time. You know what! I am not going to compare my 2-years-back-self to my current-self. It’s just so frustrating.
It was not till the end of 3rd hill; I start to feel my legs shaking. Till the third hill, there would be steps arranged in a neat manner so that we can climb easily. But after that, the steps would be would start becoming irregular heaps of stone. That is the most difficult hill to cross because it was the halfway point. The fifth and six hills would be easy to trek as there are a lot of plain areas than the elevation parts.
Then |
Now |
At the end of the sixth hill, there would be a nearly vertical slope and if we cross that, we will reach the BATHING AREA!
This marks the end of the sixth hill and the start of the seventh hill.
Me, Pangu and Shot’uh were the only persons who entered the minus degree water to have a bath. After taking the bath, it would be difficult for us to feel the palm of our foot for several minutes. So, the pain of climbing the seventh hill would be much less. That’s the trick of bathing in that chilly water.
In 2019, we started climbing the Vellingiri at 11 PM and reached the top nearly at 5:45 AM or something. (Definitely not after 6 AM). But this time, surprisingly, we have completed the six hills at 2 AM and if we travelled without pause, then we would’ve reached the top at 3 AM max. So, we thought of taking a nap after reaching halfway point in the seventh hill. We rested on the large rocks in our left and right sides of the path.
When we dozed off, we heard a voice calling our names…
Fun Fact Time
Before continuing with our adventure, I would like to share some of the fun facts on climbing these seven hills. The seventh hill has 2 paths to reach. One is a pathway to climb up the hill and the other one is a pathway to do down the hill. It’s like a reversed U-shaped pathway. In 2019, our group of six boys got separated. Me and Pangu were separated from the rest of the group and continued our journey. When we reached the end of the sixth hill, we both made a mistake of climbing the seventh hill on the go-down pathway. And I climbed that path by attaching myself with the ground. It was more like crawling than climbing. The seventh hill Is the most dangerous hill to climb as it a nearly vertical slope to climb without a regular path.
I thought it was a dream. But it’s not. I clearly heard someone calling our names and I didn’t sleep at that moment.
It was not any of the fucking gods mofosss!!!!!!
Then we all identified that voice.
It was Elaki and his 2
friends. He is our friend from EEE Department of our college.
Since he had to come from Trichy, we started climbing the hill without him. They started climbing the hills at 10 PM and boy they where fast. Elaki and his friends told us a different plan. They said that after reaching the seventh hill, instead of watching the sun rise there, we would be going down and climbing a different mountain where the sunrise view would be awesome.
So, we cancelled our naps and started climbing the seventh hill. It was very difficult that I imagined. Somehow Elaki and lovely gave me company and we reached the top. It was nearly 4 AM I guess. I stopped watching the time after the 2nd hill. Upon reaching the top, we saw the Shivalingam and got our forehead pasted with Thiruneeru.
As soon as I lied down to take some rest before going down, my friends urged me to go down to climb the neighbouring mountain so that we can see the sun rise without delay. Well except me and my friend NSK, all the others were eager to go to the neighbouring mountain. We both asked them to go ahead and see the sun rise and we both would take rest and see the sun rise in the seventh hill itself. But they have persuaded us both and we started going down.
Starting to become theists, are we?
Soon me and NSK got separated with the rest of us. We gave our bags to Elaki and others to carry as we couldn’t able to handle the weight. It was when we got separated, we had realised that the water bottles where inside our bags. We both were doomed.
How are we supposed to catch up with them?
And at our current conditions, it was very difficult to climb the neighbouring mountain too. So, we decided against following them and started descending downwards. Our tongues became dry and whenever we found chance, we would lie and take rest for few minutes.
And just when we though we would die from dehydration, we saw two guys who carried a water bottle in their hands. NSK stopped them and asked for the water. They both gave that water bottle and didn’t get that back. NSK started to blabber that those two guys where reincarnations of Shiva and we have been saved by the god! And then I thought that we won’t be dying because of dehydration but we would be dying from losing our mind.
After reaching the end of the sixth hill, we met with the rest of our friends and soon lost them. It seems they couldn’t able to watch the sunrise because the clouds had interfered. After the 4th hill, me and NSK were again got separated by the rest of our friends and NSK found his college friend suddenly. With the biscuits he gave us, we regained some energy.
On 3rd April, a sunny Saturday, at exactly 12:04 PM, we both reached down and had completed our trekking successfully.
I reached my home at 4 PM and slept a good night sleep at 7 PM.
I am saying this now: I will never in my life will ever trek Vellingiri hills again.
