With the end, a new start begins (Being Otaku #6)

BEGINNING AND END OF AN ERA 2015 Summer I finished my 12 th final exams and was getting ready for the long summer holidays I had completely lost all my interest in anime and manga. I gathered my interest for one last time and me and my brother watched our last anime as the OTAKU DUO. It was the first season of ONE PUNCH MAN. I shifted my interest towards TV series. The first TV series I watched was Dexter. I liked the first season of Dexter and it made me to forget anime and manga. That summer holidays, I was totally into TV series and movie series, I had this crazy habit of collecting movies and animes that I have watched. I couldn’t afford for an external Hard Disk and I used to burn whatever in my PC to a DVD. I bought a lot of DVD’s that summer and started burning it. I started going to type writing classes and I started gaining weight. I did a lot of things other than watching anime and reading manga. I went to my cousin’s house who was the reason for my a

Getting Old (Being Otaku #5)

Gantz was a Dark Seinen Manga. It deals with Aliens and post-Apocalyptic Worlds and stuff. If I want to rank all the mangas I have ever read it in my life, Gantz would be in the Top 5. Reading gantz made me depressed in a good way. It was a cathartic experience. Whenever I feel low in my life, I remember gantz. It won’t make my depression disappear, instead it fuels my depression. Weirdly, I liked that effect. Every now and then I would read a random volume of Gantz to keep myself away from this world. Gantz helped me to get over my Breakup during my college. It was the power of Gantz. Finishing Gantz was amazing and it felt like my purpose of life had ended. It was too weird, but I liked that feel that Gantz gave me. NO MORE ANIME AND MANGA I watched two seasons of Code Geass around that time for a change, to take myself a break from all these manga reading. It was a refreshing break.   I checked Code Provider for any anime recommendations, and I couldn’t find any. He w

Manga!!!!! (Being Otaku #4)

SECOND PHASE   As a kid I love reading books. Sometimes when I bought parle G (A famous biscuit), I would get a free Superman and Batman Comics. That was my first encounter with Comics. But comics were too costly to buy, and I didn’t enjoy comics in my childhood. As a teen, after finding that I was an otaku, I was introduced to this new world of manga. Yu Yu Hakusho was the first manga I have ever read fully. Later, I watched the anime and loved it. It was the only long running anime without any filler episodes. Manga These were Japanese comics. Usually comics will be colourful and high quality. But Mangas are in black and white. Reading manga was so immersive. I can know the world of each anime better and the characters were portrayed in depth. I learnt more about manga and the mangaka (Author of mangas) One such mangaka I came across at that time was Eichiro Oda. He’s the author of the 20 year-old running manga, ONE PIECE. Oda sensei was a genius. I read the first
